Benicio Del Toro Talks Villain Role in 'Star Wars: Episode VIII', Says it's "Gonna Happen"

He probably won't be coming back as the Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but Benicio Del Toro has found an even bigger Disney franchise set in a galaxy far far away. Last month it was reported that Lucasfilm had offered him a role in Star Wars: Episode VIII, playing the film's villain. And now in a conversation with ET, Del Toro sounds confident the role is his.

"I can’t tell you much about it but I think that it might happen. It looks like it’s gonna happen so I’m very excited.. I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it."

Del Toro didn't reveal more, but with the D23 Expo taking place this weekend there may be more information to come. Perhaps his character has close ties to the Knights of Ren, the mysterious order Adam Driver's Kylo Ren was recently revealed to be a part of.

Rian Johnson will direct Star Wars: Episode VIII for release on May 26, 2017.
