Bryan Cranston gets Blacklisted in the First Trailer for 'Trumbo'

Although he's received a ton of praise for Breaking Bad and his supporting roles in a number of features, Bryan Cranston has rarely been called upon to be the headliner. He finally gets a chance to show what he can do as the lead in Trumbo, in which he takes on the role of blacklisted filmmaker Dalton Trumbo, in a film that sees him starring alongside Helen Mirren.

Directed by Jay Roach (The Campaign, Game Change), Trumbo tells the true story of the screenwriter's successful Hollywood career in the 1940s, penning the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Kitty Foyle, Our Vines have Tender Grapes, and more. He was part of the Hollywood elite until he was blacklisted for his association with the Communist Party, forcing him to work under various pseudonyms. Under pseudonyms he would go on to win Academy Awards for Roman Holiday and The Brave One.

Diane Lane plays Trumbo's wife, Cleo, while Mirren gets what looks to be a juicy role as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, who exposed Trumbo's Communist ties. The rest of the impressive ensemble includes Elle Fanning, John Goodman, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Louis C.K., Alan Tudyk and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Trumbo debuts at TIFF next month before opening in theaters on November 6th, making it a likely awards contender.
