DC Comics Heroes Head to NBC for Workplace Comedy 'Powerless'
NBC has been lagging behind the other networks in latching on to the superhero craze. Their one real shot at it was Constantine, and that won't survive into a second season. But they're ready to give it another shot, and this time they're taking a slightly different approach by going for comedy, something they've historically been good at it.
According to Deadline, NBC has ordered a pilot for Powerless, a half-hour workplace comedy from Ben Queen (A to Z) that will be set in the DC Comics universe. The series will follow ordinary, powerless employees at a terrible insurance company, one set in a universe where Batman, Superman, and other DC heroes exist. So it's kind of like The Office meets the opening act of The Incredibles, which sounds like a show that could be a huge hit if done right.
Unfortunately it doesn't sound like the top tier heroes will be showing up. Maybe this would be a good time for Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis, who wrote an unforgettably hilarious run on Justice League, to make the move to the small screen? This sounds like the kind of material they'd be perfect for.
