Freddy's Coming For You: New 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' in the Works
Jason, Freddy Kreuger, shoot, even Leprechaun can never be counted on to stay dead. They always return to come back for more; that's just what the great horror characters and their franchises do. Only a few years have passed since Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes joined with New Line Cinema to reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street with Jackie Earle Haley as the scarred-up slasher, and the film did reasonably well making over $100M. While it got killed by critics, those numbers are apparently enough for New Line to start working on a new 'Nightmare'.
According to The Wrap, David Leslie Johnson has been hired to pen a new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie. While their story doesn't clearly state what approach they'll take, The Tracking Board says the 2010 film will be "scrapped" in favor of a remake/reboot rather than a sequel. Johnson's track record is pretty uneven as he wrote the solid screenplay for Orphan and contributed to James Wan's upcoming sequel to The Conjuring. On the other hand he also wrote 2011's embarrassingly bad Red Riding Hood.
So where does a new Freddy Kreuger film go? Maybe we'll get Freddy vs. Jason round 2? Probably not. Whatever happens, the razor-gloved killer is coming back to haunt your dreams soon. One...two...Freddy's coming for you...
