Ridley Scott could shoot 'Prometheus 2' in early 2016
A few years have passed since Ridley Scott returned to the Alien universe with Prometheus, a film that it's charitable to say was met with "mixed" response from critics and audiences alike. There has been a lot of talk of a sequel ever since, and there was even a March 2016 release date set at one point, but as usual when it comes to Scott, his schedule got crowded very quickly. He decided to direct The Martian, instead, and recently became attached to the El Chapo film, The Cartel. There have been other changes, too, such as the emergence of Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel. So where does Prometheus 2 fit in now?
In the recent print edition of Total Film it's revealed that Scott plans to film the Prometheus sequel in January 2016. He's quoted as saying “I’ve got back into the sci-fi thing, I kind of adore it", which is obvious given his continued development of a Blade Runner sequel, as well. But what would this start date, assuming it's accurate, mean for Blomkamp's film? Could they both be developed at the same time leading to a potential crossover of sorts? What would it mean for The Cartel? And given Scott's penchant for piling on projects, what's to stop him from agreeing to do something else?
A screenplay by Jack Paglen (Transcendence) and Michael Green is good to go but it still seems like a lot of pieces need to be put in order. Noomi Rapace is expected to return and so is Michael Fassbender, but otherwise any hard details remain scarce. [Scified]
