It's kind of hard to believe that Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's crazy and highly controversial Preacher series could get adapted anywhere near network television. While there have been feature attempts in the past, and an HBO project that almost got off the ground, it was the unexpected duo of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who brought the idea to AMC, home of The Walking Dead, and now it's passed the biggest hurdle by being ordered for a first season.
AMC made the announcement of a 10-episode series order for Preacher, with Rogen tweeting the news along with a look at the first poster...

A pair of Marvel regulars lead the series with Agent Carter's Dominic Cooper as Jesse Custer, a Texas preacher possessed with supernatural powers who goes on a journey to confront God. Agents of SHIELD's Ruth Negga plays his ex, Tulip, accompanying him on the quest. Along the way they encounter all sorts of crazy and blasphemous characters. Joseph Gilgun, W. Earl Brown, Tom Brooke, Elizabeth Perkins, Ian Colletti, and Lucy Griffiths round out the cast. Rogen and Goldberg will direct with Sam Catlin on board as showrunner.
While AMC is loose enough to push some boundaries, they'll need to go even further to truly capture the edgy tone Ennis brought to Preacher. If they can do that, then this is going to be a wild ride starting in May of next year.
