Guillermo Del Toro Hasn't Given Up On a 'Pacific Rim' Sequel
Fans of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim took a shot to the heart a couple of days ago when word broke that the giant robots flick had been put on hold indefinitely, with the possibility that it may not happen at all. This despite a 2017 release date, and an attempted expansion of the franchise with an upcoming comic book and a potential animated series. However, Del Toro is optimistic the film will happen, and is keeping his options open about what he'll do next. He tells EW...
"We are still turning in a screenplay and a budget in three weeks. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not gone. We’re still on it. It moved further [down the schedule]. I may do another movie in the middle.”
This isn't the first time Del Toro's had a major project thrown into limbo. His At the Mountains of Madness got shelved due to increasing budgets and concern over the tone, but his fans will also remember the film never did get made despite his intense passion for it. Del Toro's next film is the Gothic horror, Crimson Peak, also the subject of some concern by Universal Pictures, which opens on October 16th.
