It's almost impossible not to roll your eyes when someone mentions the remake of the early 90's action classic Point Break. How do you re-create that? Keanu at his "Whoa"-iest, Swayze in full on anti-hero awesomeness, surfboarding and of course, firing your gun into the air whilst yelling "AHHHHH". Here's the thing though, it's already been redone, very successfully I might add. If you haven't already pieced it together The Fast and the Furious is essentially a remake of Point Break just with cars instead of surfboards. That connection is what this second trailer is capitalizing on, yeah it's Point Break but the shots they use, the way everything is setup...it just reeks of F&F. Reeks is probably a bad word choice, I mean we're on our seventh installment and the series shows no signs of slowing down even after the death of Paul Walker. No, capitalizing on Furious is not a bad move, it's actually the stroke of genius that could turn this into a really fun retread. The only thing that concerns me is how serious it's going to take itself. The whole "Brodie acting as Robin Hood on his way to enlightenment" angle could work, or could sink the whole thing. It's going to be a high-wire act, one that I definitely am look forward to and having Edgar Ramirez, Ray Winstone, and awesome cheesy movie veteran Delroy Lindo really doesn't hurt things.
Check out the trailer below and make sure to see Point Break when it comes out this Christmas!
