Julianne Moore and Todd Haynes Reunite for 'Wonderstruck'

Safe, I'm Not There, Far From Heaven; it's fair to say that Julianne Moore and director Todd Haynes have built their careers alongside one another, and frankly they're due for another collaboration. While Haynes is basking in the awards attention he's definitely going to receive for Carol, he's already lined up his next project, an adaptation of Hugo author Brian Selznick's book, Wonderstruck. And who better than Moore to be the first official cast member?

Deadline reports that Moore has joined the film, which centers on the connection between Ben and Rose, two deaf children in totally different eras, one in 1977 and the other in 1927. It's unclear at this point what Moore's role will be. Here's the book's synopsis:

Ben and Rose secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known. Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his mother's room and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out alone on desperate quests to find what they are missing.

Set fifty years apart, these two independent stories — Ben's told in words, Rose's in pictures — weave back and forth with mesmerizing symmetry. How they unfold and ultimately intertwine will surprise you, challenge you, and leave you breathless with wonder.

Next up for Moore is this week's finale, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2. Haynes will likely be busy on the press circuit for Carol soon, and after that wraps up filming on Wonderstruck can begin.
