The film that really brought Christopher Nolan to the attention of moviegoers everywhere was Memento, an inventive, stylish mystery that ran in reverse order and starred Guy Pearce as a detective incapable of making new memories. Because of the way it was done and the acclaim the film received there have been a few imitators, but the thought that someone could come along and actually try to remake it? Well, that was unimaginable. And yet it's happening.
A company you've never heard of called AMBI Pictures has picked up the catalog of Exclusive Media Group, and along with it came the rights to Memento. So what else are they going to do with it? Any number of things would be a better idea than a remake, but that's what they're going with. And since they've also snagged Cruel Intentions, Donnie Darko, End of Watch, Sliding Doors, and other movies that should be left alone, don't be surprised if other remakes or really awful sequels are announced.
At lest AMBI recognizes how great Nolan's film was and intend to stay true to it. Wait, how are they going to do that without actually having Nolan involved? Ugh. Here's part of their statement:

We intend to stay true to Christopher Nolan’s vision and deliver a memorable movie that is every bit as edgy, iconic and award-worthy as the original. It’s a big responsibility to deliver something that lives up to the mastery of the original, but we are extremely excited and motivated to bring this puzzle back to life and back into the minds of moviegoers.”
