Is A 70mm 'Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice' Release On The Way?

Thanks to Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, more people know about 70mm presentations than ever. Even better, more theaters are equipped to show them than has been the case in years. Now all we need are more films using the format to be made available, and Warner Bros. may do that with their biggest release of 2016, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Since Zack Snyder shot portions of the superhero flick in 65mm IMAX some talks are taking place about releasing the film in 70mm, along with some older titles that used the format. The timing couldn't be better; there are more than 100 theaters now equipped for 70mm and the prices they can demand for tickets would draw some big revenue.

The bigger question is whether or not the film demands to be seen in 70mm. Snyder certainly makes "big" movies, but nothing he's done shows he can take advantage of the wider landscapes. He's not a particularly technical filmmaker in that way, whereas Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, which were hardly action-packed spectacles, used the format to maximum benefit.
