Comedy is comedy; what's funny in a live-action film should translate to the world of animation. One guy who knows comedy better than just about anybody is Nicholas Stoller, director of Neighbors, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and writer of numerous other hit films. While he's got Neighbors 2 arriving next year, he also has the animated comedy, Storks, which has just debuted its first trailer.
Featuring the voices of Andy Samberg, Kelsey Grammer, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jordan Peele, the story is based on the myth that storks deliver babies. Guess that's better than having them fall out of trees. Here's the synopsis:
Storks deliver babies…or at least they used to. Now they deliver packages for global internet giant Cornerstore.com. Junior, the company’s top delivery stork, is about to be promoted when he accidentally activates the Baby Making Machine, producing an adorable and wholly unauthorized baby girl. Desperate to deliver this bundle of trouble before the boss gets wise, Junior and his friend Tulip, the only human on Stork Mountain, race to make their first-ever baby drop – in a wild and revealing journey that could make more than one family whole and restore the storks’ true mission in the world.
Stoller, who wrote the screenplay and co-directs with Doug Sweetland, has enlisted the help of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The Lego Movie) and John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Crazy Stupid Love) as producers. So lots of talent all around on this one, but the animation field is a tough nut to break into with Dreamworks, Sony, Pixar, and Disney taking up a lot of space. Storks opens September 23rd 2016, and maybe it's me but the whole thing with babies coming out of a factory is kind of gross.
