First 'Wonder Woman' Footage Reveals Her Amazonian Origin

Was this a night of superheroes or what? Over on the Marvel side they had the season premiere of Agent Carter, but it's a wonder if anyone watched it because Warner Bros. was busy unloading every bit of footage they had of their upcoming slate of DC Comics films. That included a stylish, absurdly cool trailer for David Ayer's Suicide Squad, and now they've also revealed the first footage from Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot as the Amazonian warrior.

The word "warrior" is relevant here because that's what she was born to be, according to DC creative chief (and amazing comics writer) Geoff Johns, who debuted the footage to an awed Kevin Smith (he always looks that way, though) during CW's Dawn of the Justice League special. He calls her the "best fighter in the DC universe" because she's been trained all of her life.

As previously learned from Chris Pine's comments and seen in small amounts in this footage, the film is set during WWI and is basically an origin story, recounting her time on the island of Themyscira, and the eventual journey she takes to America to see if mankind is worth protecting. Apparently we are. Go team.

Directed by Patty Jenkins with Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Said Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, and Connie Nielsen co-starring, Wonder Woman opens June 23rd 2017.
