'The Divergent Series: Ascendant' Lands Lee Told Krieger As Director
After completing the back-to-back shoot of The Divergent Series: Insurgent and Allegiant, director Robert Schwentke was too exhausted to continue on for the finale. So he dropped out rather than take the helm for Ascendant, and it didn't take long for his replacement to be found, as Heat Vision reports Lee Toland Krieger has signed on for the sci-fi film.
Krieger is best known for directing the rom-com Celeste and Jesse Forever, and last year's surprise hit, The Age of Adaline. He makes for an unconventional choice for the dystopian action as it will be his biggest feature by far. But it gives him the chance to work with stars Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Naomi Watts, and more, which is probably incentive enough.
The fourth film in the franchise is based on the third book in Veronica Roth's trilogy, finding Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) going beyond Chicago's walls and discovering the truth about insurgents and the faction system under which they've always lived.
The Divergent Series: Ascendant opens June 9th 2017 and remains on track to hit that date.
