'The Divergent Series: Ascendant' Needs A New Director As Robert Schwentke Exits

The Divergent franchise got off to a slow start under director Neil Burger, but it then began to take off when Robert Schwentke came aboard for Insurgent and the upcoming film, Allegiant. However, the fourth and final film in the YA series is going to need a new director because Schwentke is calling it quits.

After shooting the last two movies back-to-back, Schwentke has decided to take a break and exit the fourth movie, Ascendant.  While normally this would be one of those situations where we expect to hear about creative conflicts or scheduling problems, that isn't the case this time. It's just a case of Schwentke needing time off, and his relationship with Lionsgate remains a good one.

The studio has no plans of shifting Ascendant's release date at this point, sticking with the June 9th 2017 slot for the Shailene Woodley starrer.
