First Full 'Ghostbusters' Trailer Arrives Ready For Action
It didn't take Paul Feig long to establish what kind of filmmaker he was going to be. Bridesmaids, The Heat, Spy...they had more in common than just star Melissa McCarthy. They each were comedies giving women stars a unique, funny voice, and they were all hits at the box office without needing a male actor to shoulder the burden. But with Ghostbuters he and his talented cast face a bigger challenge, like convincing the original classic's millions of fans that it needed a reboot, and that the female cast isn't just some gimmick.
After a teaser was released some weeks back, the first full Ghostbusters trailer has been released, and it's full of callbacks to the original, right down to the updated theme music. McCarthy rejoins Feig, along with Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, and Leslie Jones, and this footage promises a film that isn't afraid to embrace its roots while offering some twists on the ghost-busting comedy. For one thing, their supernatural foes are more detailed than ever and definitely creepier, including the ghost that "slimes" Wiig's character. But the tone of this one isn't all laughs, either, there's a serious edge that could be as rewarding as the humor if Feig plays it just right.
Featuring cameos by Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, and Ernie Hudson, with co-starring performances by Chris Hemsworth, Michael K. Williams, Andy Garcia, Neil Casey, Cecily Strong, and Matt Walsh, Ghostbusters opens July 15th.
