When one thinks about it, it's kind of hard to believe 16 years have passed since the first X-Men movie. In that time the franchise hasn't really grown, with the exception of a pair of Wolverine movies. But that has obviously changed this year, and a rapid expansion of the mutant-verse is happening right now, and X-Men: Apocalypse is key to all of it. The long-awaited film finally brings the X-Men's toughest foe to the big screen, and the latest trailer puts its focus squarely on him.
By far the darkest, most action-packed trailer for the film yet, this one also comes with a number of quick reveals. Look closely and you'll catch a glimpse of a certain popular X-Man's clawed hand, perhaps making his final appearance in an X-Men team movie. There's our first line of dialogue from the new Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and the biggest surprise is Quicksilver (Evan Peters) confirming that Magneto (Michael Fassbender) is his father. It doesn't make sense that they'd drop something like that in a promo, so there may be some kind of swerve involved.
And if there was any doubt who that clawed hand belongs to? Hugh Jackman just took care of that.

All in all, this looks like it could be even bigger than X-Men: Days of Future Past, and a proper send-off to this latest trilogy. Directed by Bryan Singer, with James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Tye Sheridan, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn, and many more starring, X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27th.
