Todd Haynes' 'Wonderstruck' Adds 'Pete's Dragon' Star Oakes Fegley


Todd Haynes' adaptation of Wonderstruck from Hugo author Brian Selznick is shaping up to be something incredible, which makes the casting all the more interesting. According to Deadline, it will be Oakes Fegley, star of Disney's upcoming remake of Pete's Dragon, who will be taking the co-lead opposite deaf actress Millicent Simmonds.

Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Cory Michael Smith (Gotham), and Jaden Michael have supporting roles in the fantasy film, which which have half of it shot like a silent movie. The split story centers on two deaf kids living 50 years apart. Rose lives in 1927 New Jersey and escapes her family to New York in hopes of meeting her idol, actress Lillian Mayhew. Ben lives in 1977 Minnesota and flees from there to New York in the wake of his mother's death and the finding of a mysterious note.

Fegley got his start in the military drama Fort Bliss starring Michelle Monaghan, and also had a small role in This is where I Leave You and HBO's Boardwalk Empire.
