Daisy Ridley Addresses Rumors About Rey's Parents; 'Rogue One' And 'A New Hope' Mashup Trailer

With the arrival of last week's awesome Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer, fan speculation has begun to run wild. With every new character introduced, theories about who they could possibly be have been everywhere, and since the film takes place roughly around the time of 'A New Hope', well that means a lot of familiar names are being put out there. But one theory that seems to have really taken hold centers on Felicity Jones' rebel soldier, Jyn Erso, with many suspecting she's related to Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Rey. Why? Pfft! Both are white females, maybe? Anyway, Daisy Ridley herself must have heard these rumors and grew tired of it, because she took time to shoot them down. She told MTV...

"I’m not being funny, you guys, but just because she’s white and got brown hair … it doesn’t mean she’s my mom. I think the amazing thing about [Episode VII] is that Finn and Rey don’t come from anywhere, and they find a place. So to me, it’s funny that people think [Rey's parentage is] so important because I don’t really think it is.”

Of course this could be a feint on her part, because more than likely Rey's parentage will turn out to be very important. It just probably won't have anything to do with Felicity Jones' character. And perhaps it's time to stop assuming every Star Wars character is connected to another, because there is a limiting effect to such a thing.

All that said, don't be surprised if there is at least one major secret in 'Rogue One' since it takes place at such a crucial period. A Youtube user has already created a mashup trailer of 'Rogue One' and 'A New Hope', to give a fuller picture of those "rebel scum".

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens December 16th, while Ridley will be seen next in Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15th 2017.
