First Of Four 'Avatar' Sequels To Arrive In 2018
Remember Avatar? The all-time highest grossing film has been the sole obsession of James Cameron for a decade now, using it as the platform to advance 3D visual effects technology in new and exciting ways. But it's been seven years since the groundbreaking first film, and time is rapidly passing by while Cameron's sequels have been delayed repeatedly. However it seems he's got a clearer agenda in place now, and it involves making the franchise even bigger.
Cameron hit the CinemaCon stage and announced that he's developing four Avatar sequels, comprising one "complete saga" set in the land of Pandora. The first sequel is expected to arrive in 2018, with 2020, 2022 and 2023 set for the remaining chapters. Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana, and Stephen Lang are to reprise their roles, but with four movies there should be a lot of casting news to come, especially with production on Avatar 2 beginning this month.
Is there even a desire for one more Avatar movie, much less four? It seemed like popular opinion began to turn on it years ago, and there hasn't exactly been a lot of excited reaction every time Cameron provides an update.
