Star-Lord And Thor Confirmed For 'Avengers: Infinity War', 'Captain Marvel' Casting Reveal Date, And More
How can you tell we're only weeks away from Captain America: Civil War? Because Marvel stars and directors are everywhere talking about the entire MCU, and honestly it's a little tough to keep track of everything. So here are a few tidbits that were pretty interesting.
First up, it looks like you can add two more names to the Avengers: Infinity War cast, which is already going to be huge. And, honestly, neither of these names is much of a surprise. The Russo Brothers revealed to Comicbook.com that both Thor and Star-Lord would be part of the superhero epic. Duh. Thor was pretty obvious even though he's not involved in 'Civil War', and considering the intergalactic storyline Star-Lord was always a sure bet.
The Russos have probably gotten around more than most, and considering they are directing both 'Civil War' and 'Infinity War', they have the most to add. Speaking with io9, Anthony Russo says the two separate 'Infinity War' films don't necessarily comprise one whole story...
“The movies are very very different from one another. It’s not a part one and part two scenario, necessarily. They’re just two different expressions. I think it creates a misconception that we’re shooting them at the same time.”
The confusion is understandable since they were initially billed as Avengers: Infinity War parts 1 & 2, but maybe that perception will change once they get more distinct titles.
'Civil War' has jokingly been referred to as 'Avengers 3' because practically every member of the team (minus Thor and Hulk) appears at some point. But there was one more who almost made her way into the superhero quarrel, and it's Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp. Kevin Feige dropped the news at a recent press conference attended by Slashfilm, revealing they decided to hold her next appearance for Ant-Man and the Wasp, which makes total sense....
“Wasp was in early versions of that [big fight] sequence as well, but we said, ‘We want to save that for Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ because that’s so much what the movie is going to be about: her as a hero. We also wanted… Joe and Anthony [Russo] said they needed something big to turn the battle, and that just seemed like the greatest way to do that."
Feige wasn't done, as he gave small updates on some of the solo Marvel movies that will be coming up. That includes their first female-led movie, Captain Marvel, which doesn't arrive until March 2019. While a pair of writers in Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman have already been hired, a director and star have yet to be found. So when can we expect to get some kind of announcement? Feige told Fandango it will probably be this summer, which sounds a lot like San Diego Comic-Con, doesn't it?
What about Black Panther? The film already has a star in Chadwick Boseman, who will portray the prince of Wakanda in 'Civil War' first. Ryan Coogler is directing but Feige revealed that he will also be co-writing the screenplay with a shoot date set for early next year. This is good news considering Coogler wrote both Fruitvale Station and Creed, and those turned out pretty well.
Expect there to be a lot more between now and the May 6th release of Captain America: Civil War.
