At this point you know me; I'm not just a movie guy, but I'm deeply into politics. Some of you hate it and let me know that in your emails and tweets, but y'know what? I don't really care. And when my two greatest passions merge it makes me happier than when the Bacon Festival rolls into town. Okay, maybe not that happy. Anyway, here's a case where one of my favorite directors and the Presidential candidate I support have come together to do something cool.
Tonight is the New York Presidential primary and on the Democratic side we've got the state's former U.S. Senator in Hillary Clinton, and the Brooklyn-born Bernie Sanders. While Clinton has her army of celebs ready to pitch in with big dollars (George Clooney recently hosted a $353K a plate fundraiser), Sanders has the likes of Rosario Dawson and others out there getting arrested on the street. Now Dawson and others can be seen in a new Sanders campaign video directed by New York's own, Spike Lee.
Utilizing the "Wake Up" theme that was so central to his film, School Daze, the spot features Dawson, Susan Sarandon, my girl Tessa Thompson, Dr. Cornel West, Shaun King, and many more talking about Sanders' revolutionary platform of getting money out of politics in order to affect real systemic change.
So check it out, and if you're in New York,
