While they don't really show music videos anymore, MTV was undoubtedly responsible for changing the way music is presented here and around the world. They sparked a music revolution in the '80s and beyond, and had the power to turn previously unknown pop stars into overnight sensations. Surprisingly, the story of MTV's rise to dominance has never really been told, but that's about to change thanks to A24 and writer/director, James Ponsoldt.
Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour) has been hired to write, direct, and produce an adaptation of "I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story Of The Music Video Revolution" by authors Rob Tannenbaum and Craig Marks. The story focuses on the first 10 years of the groundbreaking network which launched in 1981 with their first music video, "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles.

Brett Ratner had tried to get his version of the film off the ground a couple of years ago, but thankfully it never came to be. Ponsoldt, who has been so good at capturing specific moments in time and their significance, seems like the right choice.
