1. Captain America: Civil War- $72.5M/$295.8M
As expected, Marvel's Captain America: Civil War is performing like one of the Avengers movies, which is basically what it is. The film dropped 59% in its second weekend but scored $72.5M, the 8th biggest second weekend in a row. It now sits at $295M domestically and will probably pass Deadpool for #1 soon. Worldwide the film now sits at $940.8M and will probably cross the $1B mark in a few days, making it the fourth Marvel movie to do so. Are there any other films that can possibly stand in its way of being the year's box office champ? Maybe Rogue One: A Star Wars Story?
2. The Jungle Book- $17.7M/$311.7M
3. Money Monster (review here)- $15M
The only brand new wide release of the week was Jodie Foster's Money Monster, which comes with the powerful star duo of George Clooney and Julia Roberts, not to mention Foster herself behind the camera. The film, about the host of a "Mad Money" style financial show held hostage by an angry investor, earned $15M, which isn't bad for a modestly-sized movie for adults. It still has time to cash-in on some of that anger The Big Short tapped into on its way to Oscar nominations and $70M domestic, so we'll see what kind of legs this one has.
4. The Darkness- $5.1M
Also debuting in about 1700 theaters was horror The Darkness, starring Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, and David Mazouz of Fox's Gotham. The roughly $4M production earned $5.1M, which isn't bad considering the smallish marketing campaign and targeted rollout.
5. Mother's Day- $3.2M/$28.7M
6. Zootopia- $2.8M/$331.8M
7. The Huntsman: Winter's War- $2.5M/$44.5M
8. Keanu- $1.9M/$18.6M
9. Barbershop: The Next Cut- $1.6M/$51.3M
