It didn't take long for A24 to snap up the rights to David Robert Mitchell's Under the Silver Lake while at Cannes, and for good reason. The director of last year's horror smash It Follows secured Andrew Garfield for his follow-up, and now another red hot star is coming aboard in Fifty Shades of Grey star, Dakota Johnson.
Johnson is joining what has been described as a modern day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles. Other details remain out of reach but with so much going on around the film already expect more information to emerge soon. Mitchell will write the screenplay as well as direct.
For Johnson this is another solid gig to fill those creative spaces between 'Fifty Shades' flicks, and whatever you think of her there she's making good choices elsewhere. Currently she can be seen in Luca Guadagnino's A Bigger Splash (review here) holding her own quite well opposite Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, and Matthias Schoenaerts. Not an easy feat.
