Colin Farrell To Join Sofia Coppola's Remake Of 'The Beguiled'

Earlier this year we learned Sofia Coppola could be putting together a remake of Clint Eastwood's 1971 film, The Beguiled. And while that was already promising enough, it was the rumored cast of Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, and Kirsten Dunst that was especially impressive. Now there's even more reason to be excited as Variety reports the addition of Colin Farrell in the role once filled by Eastwood.

Farrell is in talks for the adaptation of Thomas Cullinan's Civil War-era novel about an injured Union soldier taken to an all-girl boarding school where he takes advantage of the sexually repressed atmosphere to charm his way into their lonely hearts. Coppola will not only direct but will pen the screenplay herself.

None of the cast is confirmed yet but the pieces do seem to be coming together, so hopefully we hear more about this one soon. It's shaping up to be a huge year for Farrell already. He was recently seen in Yorgos Lanthimos' The Lobster, and this fall he'll take a key role in Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
