Jonah Hill SaysThat '21 Jump Street/Men In Black' Crossover May Be Dead

Jonah Hill has two movies coming out his month, the animated Sausage Party (review shortly) and War Dogs alongside Miles Teller. He's also recently signed up for his directorial debut, Mid 90s, which as you probably guessed deals with teens of that particular era. But he also had another wild idea taking shape in the form of Sony's Men in Black/21 Jump Street crossover. What started out as some ridiculous flight of fancy gained traction when James Bobin entered talks to direct. Filming should have begun by now, but it's been all quiet on that front, and now we know why.

Speaking with The Toronto Sun, Hill says the insane mash-up may be on the shelf for good, sighting the complicated process of putting the whole thing together...

“It’s too complicated. They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the ‘Men in Black’ stuff. The ‘Jump Street’ films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes.”

So much for that, I guess, although it would have been fun to see how they could have made that idea work.
