A 'Gears Of War' Movie Is Once Again In The Works
Shouldn't there have been a Gears of War movie by now? Of course! The hit shooter game is probably the most obvious one to be adapted given its straight-forward nature and brazenness as an uber-violent sci-fi war franchise. And yet multiple attempts to get a moving going have failed, but Universal and Microsoft are going to try and get it right this time.
At a live stream event hyping Gears of War 4's release, Rod Fergusson of game developer Coalition revealed to Variety that a movie is next on the company's agenda...
“As a way to support the franchise, the next logical step was to make the movie. We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.”
Yeah, we'll see. So far there is no talent attached, either in front of the camera or behind it, so this is very early in the process. But whoever does come aboard will have some great material to work with. In the past I've referred to Gears of War as Starship Troopers minus the cynicism. It's a brutal, bloody, deafening assault on the senses as humans face a violent alien race to save the planet. A movie could be amazing if and when it ever happens.
