Nope, Marvel Isn't Planning Anything With 'Blade' Yet
This past weekend was the New York Comic-Con, and as usual that means suck-ass sites were out there trying to spin the tiniest shred of info into a major story. Come to think of it, that's every day. When it comes to Marvel news it gets a million times worse, and when the site in question is dedicated solely to covering superhero news the irresponsible reporting is off the fuckin' hook. And that was the case with a rumor that started going around about Marvel and some supposed plans to revive Blade now that it's back under their umbrella.
It started with this piece by CBR (others were complicit too, but whatever) that had Underworld star Kate Beckinsale being asked about a possible crossover with Blade, since they both involve vampires. God I hate fan Q&As! What a terrible damn question. Anyway, her response was basically, "Nah, playa"...
“No. We had that idea. No… They’re busy. They’re doing something with ‘Blade.’”
And it was off to the races from there with site after site furiously reporting that Marvel has a Blade project in the works and ooooh remember Wesley Snipes met with Marvel like a year ago and yadda yadda yadda. Well, no. After last night's Doctor Strange preview Kevin Feige was asked about Beckinsale's comments and shut that whole thing down...
“They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with ‘Blade’ at some point.’ That’s still the answer. We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on ‘AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.”
Could he be lying? Of course. Do we have ANY reason to think that's the case? Nope. Blade will eventually return and when it happens trust that Marvel will make a very big deal out of it.
