Brad Peyton Reveals Which Monsters 'Rampage' Will Feature
Dwayne Johnson vs. giant monsters? Yes, please! That's what we're going to get with the long-developing adaptation of '80s video game, Rampage. The one thing the game didn't really have was much of a storyline. Basically you controlled one of three monsters as they tore apart a city. So how do you make a movie about a game with no plot? Brad Peyton, who also directed Johnson in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and San Andreas, reveals to We Got It Covered his approach while also confirming which monsters will be in the movie.
"With Rampage, we are using our love of the original game as our inspiration. Then we’re going to build a movie, like San Andreas, that is really going to surprise people in what it delivers. It’s going to be a lot more emotional, a lot scarier and a lot more real than you’d expect. So you look at that original concept about a lab that affects these animals and makes them rampage, and that’s the nugget. If they called me tomorrow to do Call of Duty, I wouldn’t want to play any of the Call of Duty games. I’d have to come up with something that deserves to be its own thing. That’s where a lot of these movies can go wrong."
He added that the classic trio of creatures; George the ape, Lizzy the lizard, and Ralph the werewolf, will be featured in the movie. I dig what Peyton is saying about finding inspiration in the core concept and building outwards from there. To me that's a lot more interesting than a ready-made adaptation like Assassin's Creed, but we'll see. Rampage opens April 20th 2018.
