'Deadpool 3' To Include X-Force; Bryan Singer Won't Return For Next 'X-Men' Movie

Although there's been a creative shake-up on Deadpool 2 with director Tim Miller dropping out, 20th Century Fox has nothing but love for the R-rated merc's franchise. THR has dropped the news that Fox is already seeking a director for Deadpool 3, which will include the X-Men's militaristic colleagues in X-Force.

An X-Force movie had been in development but seemed to get sidetracked after New Mutants was announced. That said, two of its members, Cable and Domino, are expected to be in Deadpool 2, and that will likely lead to a bigger story in the third movie. Expect star Ryan Reynolds to have a lot of say in who gets cast as disagreements over the Cable role were said to be part of the reason for Miller's departure.

Meanwhile, the site also says the next core X-Men movie has been "reset" with producer/writer Simon Kinberg working on a new screenplay. They say the franchise will be reconfigured, and part of that is NOT bringing back Bryan Singer, who directed four X-Men movies including the underwhelming X-Men: Apocalypse.  That said, they're optimistic about bringing back key stars Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and James McAvoy. Fassbender and Lawrence's three-picture deals are up, and the same is true of Nicholas Hoult, so if they return expect some major cash to be thrown around. Singer has already moved on to direct Rami Malek in the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, so it's no sweat off his back.

Finally, there's hope for those who are dying to see Channing Tatum in a long brown trench coat as Gambit is expected to return to active development. Issues with the screenplay put the movie on hold, and in the meantime Tatum went off to shoot Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky, but once that's done he could be back in the mutant fold. Also, it looks like Josh Boone's New Mutants film could begin shooting this spring if everything goes as planned. They'd need to have McAvoy available for that as the film follows a team of Xavier's students, including some younger mutants who are part of the X-Men.
