The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series, which was recently expanded to a five movies, takes place about seventyfive years before the birth of Harry Potter. That means it leaves open the possibility of seeing some characters we know, only at a much younger age. That also opens up the chance to see some big name actors in those roles. All that to say today's news is certainly unexpected as Johnny Depp has signed on for the 'Fantastic Beasts' sequel.
The news comes from Deadline who report that Depp will be playing an unknown character opposite the returning Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander. Not only that, but he'll make a cameo in the first movie. As expected the Internets is going wild with theories about Depp's role but the prevailing theory is he'll play a young version of Dumbledore, and that is definitely a possibility.
So place your bets. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens November 18th.
