If you haven't been following Shailene Woodley the last few months you may have been wondering what she's been up to since The Divergent Series and Snowden went belly up. Mostly she's been on the frontlines of multiple social and political causes, spending weeks in support of the water protectors at Standing Rock. Coming off the recent success of her activism, Woodley is ready to get back to the big screen, and her latest project will see her teamed up with director Baltasar Kormakur on a survival film.
Deadline reports Woodley and Kormakur are coming together for Adrift, a hot package that has multiple distributors interested, and it's easy to see why. Kormakur, who has survival thrillers Everest and The Deep already under his belt, so he's perfect for this true-life tale of danger on the high seas. The story follows Tami Oldham and her fiance Richard Sharp who hit a monumental storm while sailing in the Pacific Ocean. Knocked unconscious, Tami would wake up to find Richard and the life boat gone, all navigating instruments destroyed, and nursing a nasty head wound. Thus began a 41-day journey of survival that took her 1500 miles to the Hawaiian shores.
It's being described as Gravity on the high seas, and it sounds like a centerpiece role for Woodley which would be a nice change of pace. She'll be seen next as part of HBO's miniseries ensemble Big Little Lies alongside Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Dern.
