Will Ferrell Has An eSports Comedy On The Way

Will Ferrell has a new comedy coming, and it has to do with sports. Well, eSports, anyway. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody because Ferrell LOVES movies about sports, even the kind that involves sitting on your couch playing video games.

The Semi-Pro and Talladega Nights star will join with Legendary on the project, which features a script by Michael Kvamme and Jordan Dunn. Basically, Ferrell will be the old guy on a professional eSports team. The average age of professional player is in the teens since most retire in their 20s because old people suck at video games. I refute that notion. Adding a layer of authenticity will be real-life eSports teams Evil Geniuses and Fnatic, who are in negotiations to join the film.

This could end up being huge. The competitive world of eSports has millions of fans around the world, with their League of Legends finals amassing more viewers than the World Series. That's nuts. Combine a fan base like that with Ferrell's box office power and look out. That is unless this turns out to be less like Blades of Glory and more like Kicking and Screaming. [Variety]
