With the awards season in full swing, the Hollywood Foreign Press has thrown their hat into the ring with the reveal of the 74th Golden Globes nominees. And the big winner once again was La La Land which gathered up 7 nominations including Best Picture Musical or Comedy, and Best Director for Damien Chazelle. Not much in the way of surprises, I think, except for Fences once again getting the shaft except for its perforances by Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. Also, Jonah Hill being recognized for War Dogs is a bit unexpected, but this is what happens when the categories are divided up by genre.
It was another strong showing for Moonlight which earned 6 nominations, including Best Picture Drama. I was happy to see Deadpool slice and dice its way into the Best Picture Comedy field, giving the superhero flick some much-deserved love.
