Jaume Collet-Serra Lines Up 'Waco' From 'The Hurt Locker' Writer Mark Boal

The definition of an efficient, workmanlike director is Jaume Collet-Serra. He's done some good work, like his breakout film Orphan and last year's summer hit, The Shallows. And then most of the action flicks he's done with Liam Neeson, such as Non-Stop and Unknown, were pretty forgettable. Let's see what happens when takes on something with some actual weight to it.

Collet-Serra will direct Waco, and you probably already know what it's about. The script, promisingly written by Oscar-winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and Marc Haimes (Kubo and the Two Strings) will follow cult leader David Koresh, leader of the Branch Dividians, who came under siege by the FBI in 1993 in one of the agency's most controversial actions.

This is speeding along quickly with Annapurna Pictures hoping for a start by the end of the year. Why? Because they want to stay close to the other Waco project out there, a limited series starring Taylor Kitsch and Michael Shannon which is already shooting. [Deadline]
