Nicolas Cage Will Take On Demon Bikers In Action Flick, 'Mandy'
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst is a pretty good motto to go by when considering Nicolas Cage movies. Every now and then he'll hook up with an interesting filmmaker and give a performance that reminds you how good he can be, but more often than not what you get is crap that should be piling up in a landfill. Cage's next film sounds potentially amazing and bonkers, with a director who has shown promise in the past at tackling the bizarre. Sounds like a match made in B-movie heaven.
Cage will star in Mandy, an action flick from director Panos Cosmatos, who gave us the super-weird Beyond the Black Rainbow, a sci-fi film that won him a lot of genre fans. This shot of craziness is set in 1983 and stars Cage as Red Miller, who seeks revenge against a religious cult that killed the love of his life, presumably named Mandy.
Dude. But check out what producer Daniel Noah had to say, in some of the best hype man work I've read in a minute...
“Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked story of battle axes and demon bikers is unfathomably exciting to us.”
Battle axes and demon bikers? Check please. This might be a shitty movie in all of the best ways. Elijah Wood, Josh C. Waller (Raze) are counted among its producers, so I'm expecting something strange and pulpy and hopefully reminiscent of Drive Angry, a personal favorite. Oscar-nominated composer Johann Johannsson (Arrival) will be providing the score, another reason to get excited. [Deadline]
