Amblin's 'Intelligent Life' Gains 'Stranger Things' Director Rebecca Thomas

It's tough to replace a director like Ava DuVernay, which may be why Amblin took a year finding a new one for Intelligent Life. THR reports Stranger Things director, Rebecca Thomas, has signed on to direct the film originally co-written by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.

A year ago Intelligent Life looked incredible with DuVernay and Lupita Nyong'o attached. However, they both dropped out with DuVernay heading over to A Wrinkle in Time, and the project has been pretty quiet ever since. Thomas is a great choice, though, to tell the story of a United Nations employee monitoring outer space who makes first contact with a beautiful woman who may be an alien. Thomas will give the script a polish, picking up from Jay Roach who did some work on it last year.

Add this to the list of high-profile projects Thomas has agreed to recently. She's on board to direct an adaptation of James Wan's comic, Malignant Man. She also has adaptations of John Greene's Looking for Alaska and Cheryl Della Pietra’s Gonzo Girl in the very early stages of development. And of course she'll be back for Stranger Things' second season in October.
