James Gunn On 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3', Marvel's Cosmic Future, And Nova's Debut
The battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War may be the end of Marvel's Phase 3, but it's also the beginning of something new. It does appear that the MCU is going cosmic in a big way, and that will mean the introduction of new characters who won't be locked to planet Earth. Guardians of the Galaxy was Marvel's first big step in that direction, but James Gunn says Vol. 3 will see that step turn into a full-on run, setting up movies for years to come. He told a fan during a Facebook Q&A...
"One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 — it will take place after the next two Avengers movies — and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe."
That sounds like hyperbole but who really can say? It's not like there's a shortage of awesome cosmic Marvel characters to choose from, and one of those who may finally find his way onto the big screen is Rich Ryder aka Nova. We've seen the universal police force known as the Nova Corps, but the chief Nova has yet to make an appearance. However, Gunn answered a fan's question in the positive when asked if Nova might appear in the near future...
"Yes, definitely. Nova comes up occasionally as someone we might use. We’re going to be setting up new characters. It will be the last movie of this version of Guardians of the Galaxy."
Personally, I'm expecting to see Nova, Adam Warlock, and Quasar in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. From there, who knows?
