"All I'm trying to do is bring life into this house. Open the door to new people, new ideas!", screams Javier Bardem in the trailer for Darren Aronofsky's mother! And it's one of a few chilling moments in a movie that seems packed to the crumbling rafters with psychological torment for the character played by Jennifer Lawrence. We've seen Aronofsky put women through this kind of gauntlet before, most notably in Black Swan, but I don't know if he's ever done anything quite this terrifying.
Details on the film are still being kept under wraps and, dammit, it better stay that way. We know Lawrence and Bardem play a married couple who see their perfect lives upended by the arrival of two uninvited guests, played by Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer. But were they truly uninvited? This footage would seem to put that into question as Bardem appears quite happy having them there, and ofcourse he's willing to "open the door to new people."
A couple of scenes that freaked me out? When Lawrence's character gulps down whatever that nasty looking yellow liquid was. I don't even want to know. And then when she looks out the window to see dozens of people with flashlights trolling around her yard. Are they about to knock on the door? Perhaps it's time to pull in that "Welcome" mat.
