Melissa McCarthy To Star In Drama About First Female Boston Cops

Melissa McCarthy's got another cop movie on the way, and it promises to be more serious than The Heat. New Line Cinema has purchased an untitled cop drama from Alexandra Lydon, based on her book proposal. What could be such a good idea that studios engaged in a bidding war to pick up the rights so early? It deals with the first women to join the Boston police department in the 1970s.

McCarthy is being set to play one of the women, in what is expected to be an ensemble cast. McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone will also produce the film, which follows the black and white female cops who broke the gender barrier of the Boston PD's old boys' club at a time of deep racial division in the city.

I can see this one being pushed in a similar fashion as Hidden Figures, and depending on the cast and director it could gain just as much attention. [Deadline]
