Another day, another new Michael B. Jordan project, but this one comes completely out of left field and sounds pretty great. Jordan is in talks to star in A Bittersweet Life, a remake of the great 2005 Korean film that starred Lee Byung-hun.
Even better, Jordan would be joined by director Jennifer Yuh Nelson, best known for her work on the Kung Fu Panda movies. She recently set out on her live-action directorial debut, an adaptation of YA novel The Darkest Minds, and clearly this is another bold step away from the world of animation.
A Bittersweet Life centers on a mobster whose loyalties to his crime family are tested when he's ordered to kill his mistress. If you have a chance to see the original, try to get your hands on the director's cut which swaps some scenes around and has a bit more emotional impact. An Americanized version of the film with Jordan could be great, and it's already being seen as "a high-concept, character-driven genre film with franchise potential."
Jordan has a lot on his plate right now. Of course he has Black Panther coming up next February, but he also has HBO's Fahrenheit 451, a sequel to Creed, and the education drama Wrong Answer which will reunite him again with director Ryan Coogler. Jordan will also join with Moonlight writer Tarell Alvin McCraney for a coming-of-age TV drama on the OWN Network. [Deadline]
