Obi-Wan Kenobi Spinoff In The Works With Stephen Daldry Directing

Well, we've heard rumblings of an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoff before, with Ewan McGregor frequently expressing his desire to return to the role. And now it looks like it may be happening, as THR reports Stephen Daldry (The Hours) is in talks to direct and oversee the project, including the script phase.

There's still a lot that we don't know. First, would McGregor be coming back to play the famous Jedi Knight and protector of a young Luke Skywalker? Also, would this be similar to Rogue One and set within the framework of the "main" Star Wars movies? Or will be a prequel of Kenobi's younger years, like the upcoming Han Solo movie?

I think it's interesting Lucasfilm went with Daldry on this. He's bounced between the screen and stage for most of his directing career, breaking out with 2000's hit, Billy Elliot. While he's taken on plenty of prestige dramas like The Hours, The Reader, and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Daldry has never done anything the scope of a Star Wars movie. But I think this is Lucasfilm's answer to the problems they've had previously with Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Gareth Edwards. Remember, she brought in the seasoned Tony Gilroy to help out on Rogue One, and Ron Howard to fix up Han Solo.
