Sure Shots: Sharon Stone; Michael Biehn; Ben Mendelsohn

*Well, if you're going to make a tawdry, low rent version of Basic Instinct, you might as well get the woman who famously flashed her beaver in it. Tony Kaye(American History X) is following up his schoolroom drama, Detachment, with a sex thriller ironically named Attachment. Variety reports that Sharon Stone has now taken the lead, playing a married woman who has a fling with a student, only to have him begin dating her daughter and stalking the entire family. Actor turned writer, Christopher Denham, wrote the screenplay. This one sounds like a potential pipe bomb waiting to happen, with the oddball Kaye working with the equally eccentric Stone. Her sorta comeback seems to be moving right along, though, as she'll be a deity in an adaptation of Gods Behaving Badly, and will also appear in Lovelace opposite Amanda Seyfried.

* I love the direction Michael Biehn(The Terminator) has taken his career. Not content playing second fiddle in bad straight-to-DVD flicks, he's quietly turned to the corner to become something of a indie force to be reckoned with. He most recently starred in Xavier Gens' survival horror, The Divide, and now Biehn and his wife Jennifer Blanc-Biehn will be spearheading a trio of grindhouse flicks all to be shot within a 45 day span. Wow. Tentatively titled The Farm, Up and Down, and The Predicator, Biehn will star in all three, although directors for the films have yet to be named. Very ambitious, but I totally dig it and can't wait to see the result. [Shocktilyoudrop]

* Ben Mendelsohn's performance as the sadistic elder Pope in Animal Kingdom still gives me chills, but I haven't seen much from him since. He was in Killer Elite, but I don't even remember who he was. Hopefully things will turn out better in his next project, The Grandmothers, which already has a wealth of talent attached. Starring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright as two best friends who fall in love with the other's son(awkward!!), the film is directed by Anne Fontaine(Coco Before Chanel) and written by Christopher Hampton(Atonement). Also joining the cast are Aussie model/actress Sophie Lowe and Gary Sweet. James Frecheville and Xavier Samuel co-star.
