Trailer Time: 'The Amazing Spider-Man', starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone

Let's be honest, The Amazing Spider-Man doesn't have nearly the buzz of the other two superhero films due out this year, The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. I think a lot of the reason has to do with it being a reboot of a popular, long running franchise, and some general wariness about Andrew Garfield as the star. As much as people like the young actor, many will always associate Tobey Maguire with Peter Parker. But it's also more than that, and it's likely people are still confused about the tone director Marc Webb is planning to take.

A brand new trailer has been released, and I think it does a much better job of showing us Webb's approach. Some may have an issue with another origin story for Spider-Man, but I like that they're throwing a curveball by including Peter Parker's parents into the mix. Peter's father(Campbell Scott) appears to have been a former employee at OsCorp, working alongside Dr. Curt Connors(Rhys Ifans) on some secretive formula that may tie into Peter's destiny. That may be going a bit overboard, but it's better than in the comics where Peter's parents were secret agents.

What I dig most, though, is that the film is much darker and grittier than I thought, but also has a strong sense of humor. One of my minor complaints with Raimi's films was that Parker was too much of a nerd, and when he tried to be funny it seemed forced. Garfield's version appears to be much more natural, and has a bit of an edge to him. I'm definitely diggin' this trailer over the last one, and am more excited over The Amazing Spider-Man than I've ever been. Even the glancing looks at The Lizard were well done. We'll probably never get a full on shot of him, but that's exactly how it should be. July 4th can't get here soon enough.

Enough of me, though, take a look at the trailer for yourself....
