Jeremy Irons the latest to join the cast of 'Beautiful Creatures'

It's hard to go wrong with Jeremy Irons if you need a villain, like in Die Hard with a Vengeance or as the voice of Scar in The Lion King. He has the sort of deep, gravelly, commanding tone that can send shivers up your spine. Lately he's been spending more time on TV as part of the Showtime series, The Borgias, and he'll be seen next in The Words(my review here), starring Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana. His presence in that film is one of its strongest points, but before it ever sees theaters Irons will be already done with his next project.

Joining the mix of veterans and youngsters as part of the Beautiful Creatures cast, Irons will be hanging out with the likes of Viola Davis Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Thomas Mann(Project X), Jack O'Connell and Alice Englert. Based on the first book in Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's wildly popular series, the Southern set story follows two young lovers who uncover powerful secrets about themselves, their family, and their town.  Irons will play the mysterious and reclusive Macon Ravenwood.

Filming on Beautiful Creatures begins next month with Richard LaGravenese directing.
