Vince Vaughn to star in adaptation of 'The Rockford Files'

Well known TV shows being adapted for the big screen isn't a new thing in the least, but it does seem to have gained some serious traction lately. The overwhelming success of 21 Jump Street certainly didn't hurt, and lets not forget more obvious ones like The A-Team, Mission: Impossible and Star Trek. Vince Vaughn knows his way around them as well, having starred opposite his running buddy, Owen Wilson, in 2004's Starsky & Hutch.

Vaughn will now take the solo lead in The Rockford Files, taking on the role made famous by James Garner in the 1970s crime series. The show was based on Los Angeles based private investigator Jim Rockford, who used his charm and smarts to solve cases every week, usually running afoul of the LAPD in the process.

This might turn out to be better than you think, although with Vaughn in the lead expect it to be more humorous than the show. The script comes from David Levien and Brian Koppelman, who round the excellent gambling flick, Rounders. They've been busy lately, with their script for Runner, Runner recently picking up Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake as the leads. As for Vaughn, he'll be busy at least through this summer shooting The Internship alongside Owen Wilson, so there's plenty of time for a director to be found. [Deadline]
