Shannyn Sossamon to star in Paul Schrader-scripted thriller 'The Jesuit'

Oh, Shannyn Sossamon! Why aren't you a bigger star? Sossamon was the "It" girl around Hollywood for a hot second after making her debut opposite Heath Ledger in A Knight's Tale, and I've been a fan ever since Brett Easton Ellis' The Rules of Attraction. She's continued to work steadily, although she's never lived up to that early promise. She recently starred in WWE Studios' The Day, and has a recurring role on ABC's upcoming drama, Mistresses.

She may be working her way back into leading feature film roles, though, as she's just joined Jose Maria Yazpik(The Burning Plain) in The Jesuit, an indie thriller which features a script by Paul Schrader(Taxi Driver, The Canyons) and directed by Alfonso Pineda Ulloa. Yazpik plays a man nicknamed "the Jesuit", who is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit. When his wife is killed and son kidnapped and taken to Mexico, he comes up with a dangerous plot to avenger death and save his child. Sossamon plays a woman he hires to masquerade as his wife on the mission.

Filming on The Jesuit begins later this month.  [Deadline]
