New Trailer for Mike Newell's 'Great Expectations'
There hasn't been much of a response to Mike Newell's adaptation of Great Expectations even though it's been in theaters overseas for nearly a year. It may have something to do with the Charles Dickens novel having been adapted more than a dozen times already, and in tremendous fashion in some cases. The film is finally landing stateside this fall, perhaps as some vague attempt at attracting some Oscar attention, and now we have a new trailer.
Starring Jeremy Irvine as Pip, Helena Bonham Carter as Ms. Havisham, and Holliday Grainger as Estella, it looks like a fairly standard interpretation. The only exception would be the gorgeous production and costume design, with the period aesthetic perhaps attracting those who fell in love with Joe Wright's Anna Karenina. Otherwise this looks skippable.
Great Expectations will open in limited release November 8th. Check out the trailer and a couple of clips....
