The two quirkiest movies of the summer are also the ones with the least amount of certainty. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are hoping recognition and nostalgia can carry them through a tough blockbuster season. Will it work for either film? Only time will tell, but for now we've got some cool new posters to consider.
First up is this image of intergalactic pals Rocket Raccoon and Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy, which hits theaters on August 1st. The characters are voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, and there's a good chance this is the only time you'll get to see those two in the same movie so better enjoy it. Although the team itself is mostly unknown outside of the comic book fandom, these are two of Marvel's most popular B-level characters and it looks like director James Gunn has pulled out all of the stops to get them right. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Benicio Del Toro, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, John C. Reilly, and more make up arguably Marvel's best cast yet.
We also have a handful of character pieces for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, featuring Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, and their armored enemy, Shredder, who will be played by the very-American William Fichtner. But changing Shredder's nationality is a pretty small detail when one considers the turtles may not even be teenaged, as was suspected months ago when the film was simply titled Ninja Turtles. Images from the toy line show smaller teen versions of the Turtles, followed by adult-aged ones that resemble what we've seen in the film. Is it a big deal? Probably not, and at least they do seem to be mutants and not aliens.
